Garden Quilt Show
Reiman Gardens is organizing a three day Garden Quilt Show to be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 3, 4 and 5, 2012. The goal is to encourage the art of quilting, display a fabulous selection of garden themed and quilts created by talented Iowans, and provide instruction, demonstrations and inspiration for both novice and experienced quilters.
A juried show with prizes awarded by central Iowa sponsors, a vendor’s marketplace offering quilt-related merchandise and fabrics, speakers, and demonstrations along with dozens of quilts will be featured. Half day classes and book signings with some of your favorite Iowa quilters will also be a part of this wonderful, three-day event.
If you are interested in submitting a quilt/s to be judged for admission to the Garden Quilt Show, please read the information below about this year’s categories, and click on the link to download an application with complete detailed information.

Some Assembly Required
The Reiman Gardens’ theme for 2012, “Some Assembly Required”, will include displays of giant LEGO® sculptures and mouse trap sculptures among others, and quilting is a perfect fit! Quilts for this category must exhibit a theme about how things are built. This could include, but is not limited to the following: construction, building blocks (LEGO® pieces), assembly lines, engineering, tools, construction materials (wood, metal, glass, glue, etc.), sewing, knitting, crochet, DNA and cells, plans/patterns, etc. Traditional quilt blocks such as: Monkey Wrench, Log Cabin, Dutchman’s Puzzle, Yankee Puzzle, and Cog Wheel would be included in this category. Quilts are limited to a 36”x36” maximum size.
Roses
Reiman Gardens is home to one of the premier rose gardens in the country and includes a large collection of Dr. Griffith Buck roses developed at Iowa State University. Help us celebrate the 175 different cultivars in the Gardens with a rose themed quilt. Quilts must include a rose in the design either by including fabrics which display a rose pattern or by creating a rose in the quilt pattern. Traditional quilt blocks like the Rose of Sharon, Rosebud, Dutch Rose, and Wreath of Roses would be included in this category.
Floral Garden
Quilts in this category should exhibit a garden theme that is specifically floral in nature. Quilts must include a flower in the design either by including fabrics which display a floral pattern or by creating a flower in the quilt pattern. Quilt blocks with floral garden names such as: Lily, Flower Basket, and Nosegay would also be included in this category.
Non-Floral Garden
Quilts in this category should exhibit a garden theme that is not specifically floral in nature. Landscape, fruits, vegetables and trees would all fall into this category. Quilt blocks with non-floral garden names such as: Corn and Beans, Maple Leaf, Pine Tree or Tree of Life, and Pineapple would also be included in this category.
Outdoor Quilts
This special category is open to Iowa Quilters Guild members only (visit
www.iowaquiltersguild.com for information on this category and joining the guild). Quilts in this category will be hung
